Hockey Tops Mount in Game 1, 6-3

Last weekend, the Hawks dropped a disappointing 3-0 decison to archrival LaSalle on their home ice at Thayer Arena, and in the process handed the top seed to the Rams for the Cimini/Championship Division state playoffs.

The Hawks, the #2 seed, also drew the unenviable task of taking on the #3 seed and defending state champions, Mount St. Charles. It's a task that, all things being equal, any team would rather avoid in the opening round, simply because the Mounties are never a team to be taken for granted. all those championship banners at Adelard Arena are there for a reason.

In any event, the higher-seeded Hawks took care of business last night in Game 1 at Thayer Arena by doubling up the Mounties, 6-3, in a contest broadcast LIVE right here on The Network. A full Network crew was in the booth for the opening game: Cam Brennan, Stone Freeman, Ben Macksoud, Max Zweiner, Remy Morris, and Desmond Bernal.

By intermission the Hawks had opened a 5-2 lead, and once the thrid period began to unfold, the outcome was never trukly in doubt. Matt Creamer continued to find the back of the net as he's done all season, scoring twice for the Hawks. Two of the Hawks' goals can be seen right here:

The semi-final series continues tonight at 9pm at Adelard Arena in Woonsocket, on the Mount St. Charles campus. Let's get a good contingent of Hawks fans up there to support our guys and help them into the championship round, which will be held at Brown University. If you can't make the game, however, The Network will have puck-to-puck live coverage at hawkssportsnetwork.com.
