After surviving Blizzard Juno, the undefeated (9-0) wrestling Hawks were back in action last Thursday night, when they took on the North Kingstown Skippers (3-6). Before the Hawks were favored to win, as the recent rankings on RI Wrestling Forum had the Hawks ranked first. In the individual rankings, senior Nick Celico (113), freshman Dylan Disano (126), senior Lewis Stewart (160), and junior Jimmie Sauro (182) were all ranked number one in their class. Close to the top of the rankings was senior Matt Jacobsen in 138, senior Anthony Dimauro in 152, and senior John Arruda in 145.
The Hawks didn't focus on those rankings, however, as they were clearly focused on the Skippers. Freshman Cam Nappi got the Hawks started, winning by pin in the 106 and giving them an early 6-0 lead. The next two matches resulted in nine points for the Hawks. Nick Celico won his match by forfeit in the 113, and freshman Devin Rivet came away with a close 3-2 minor decision against his opponent in the 120. Following that win, Freshman Dylan Disano won his match by pin in a 126 clash. Disano’s pin can be seen here:
With the Hawks up, junior Jamie Swanson also fought hard for a 4-2 minor decision, which gave the Hawks three more points. For the next four weight classes the seniors stepped up and made their presence known. First, Matt Jacobsen picked up four points in a 10-1 major decision in the 138. Next, John Arruda (145) won by pin against his opponent. Immediately following that match, Anthony Dimauro also won by pin in the 152. Finally Lewis Stewart in the 160 won his battle by pin. Lewis’s pin can be seen below:
With the score 46-0, the Hawks kept pushing the Skippers into a deeper hole. The Hawks proceed to win four of the next five matches. Junior Stevie Johnson (170) and Junior Nick Martino (195) both won their matches by forfeit. The Hawks also picked up twelve points with wins by pin from Junior Jimmie Sauro (185) and Junior Zach O’Conner in the 220. With the score 70-0, the Skippers' only chance to avoid the shutout was sophomore Richard Brown, when he went up against Hawks' sophomore Frank Cole in the 285. After a stalemate in the first two rounds, Brown was able to pin Cole for the Skippers' only points, ending the match at 70-6.

The Hawks' next match is against the LaSalle Rams, on February 4th at 7:00 pm at LaSalle Academy.
