Coach Brennan and the rest of the cross country staff were more than pleased with the performances from the Hawks' runners in and the final results from their competing in the prestigious Manhattan (NY) Invitational this past weekend, a race in which they have the opportunity to go up against the strongest cross country teams in the East. While the team's coaches were very happy with performances and efforts of all their runners, it was the team and individual results in the Freshman "A" (2nd place, with an average time of 6:42.94), Sophomore "C" (3rd, 14:41.88), JV "A" (3rd, 13:46.50), and Varsity/Eastern States Championship (9th, 13:15.72) races that pleased them the most.
In the Freshman "A" race, top Hawks finishers were Harry Antone (6:24.0) and Gian Pandolfini (6:42.3), while the Sophomore "C" race was led by Jeff Venter (14:04.9) and Max Waite (14:23.6). Tom McMahon (13:23.2) and Michael Kiernan (13:42.4) took 6th and 11th places respectively in the JV "A" race, and in the big one - the Eastern States Championship - Michael Potter (12:59.7) and Tom Grizetti (13:08.5) led the way for the Green-and-Gold.
The Hawks continue on the path toward what will hopefully be another championship season when they compete in the Class A and JV state championships on Saturday, October 25th at 11 am at Ponagansett High School.
